Not only does eFootball going to be free-to-play, but an evolving experience, and it looks like Konami has its early roadmap set. At some point, there will also be online leagues and esports tournament rolled out to nurture competition in the game. It will eventually feature crossplay between PC, Xbox, and Playstation platforms, as well as cross-generation play between Xbox One and Series X/S and PS4 and PS5. Konami even provided a road map for what will be coming after the game launches. The brand took an interesting move in adding ‘eFootball’ to the title in 2020, but in 2021, it looks like Konami is retiring the Pro Evolution Soccer name altogether. Konami had the dominant football game across releases like Pro Evolution Soccer 3, Pro Evolution Soccer 4, Pro Evolution Soccer 5, Pro Evolution Soccer 6 and Pro Evolution Soccer 2008, but from the release of FIFA 09, EA began to take over. It's easy to forget that despite EA Sports' FIFA video game franchise being the current dominant football simulation game, Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer, or PES, video game series was the dominant game from around 2003 to around 2008. Konami has announced that their new football simulation game will be called eFootball, and it will be released in Autumn 2021 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows 10 and PC Steam, with iOS and Android to follow soon after.ĮFootball will be a free-to-play football game, with crossplay available across all platforms, which will be continually updated and upgraded rather than releasing a new game every year, following the free-to-play philosophy of games like Fortnite.
